Maruti Suzuki remains the highest-selling car manufacturer in India, holding a market share of 42-43%. While the company once controlled over 50% of the market, it continues to dominate, with no competitor coming close in terms of volume. Recently, Maruti achieved a major milestone by producing 1 crore units at its Manesar facility, making it the fastest Suzuki plant globally to reach this mark in just 18 years.
Manesar Facility: A Manufacturing Milestone
The Manesar plant, which began operations in 2006, achieved the 1 crore milestone with the rollout of a Brezza unit. Spread over 600 acres, the plant plays a key role in Maruti Suzuki’s production, manufacturing models like Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz, Dzire, and Wagon R. These cars are not only sold domestically but are also exported to regions including Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Commitment to ‘Make in India’
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating that it highlights India’s manufacturing capabilities and supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The Manesar facility’s impressive production capacity currently stands at 2.35 million units annually, showcasing its pivotal role in the company’s success and export growth.
